Universal Parallel Port - UPP

Universal Parallel Port is a major improvement vs. the old IEEE-1284 parallel port. It is targeted for Notebook PCs to provide standard bi-directional parallel port. Its superior features include:
  • Very small size of connector: WxH 30x 3 mm to fit into small devices and PCMCIA card. ( vs. the old DB25 female parallel port 54x12mm).

  • Ultra low power draw, during the operation it draws only 5mA and standby less than 0.2mA ( over 20 times less in comparison to the IEEE1284 ports).

  • Signals fully compatible with standard parallel port with driving power up to 20mA.

  • Provides 5V power up to 500mA to drive the connected peripheral devices.

  • All digital logic implemented in a Trans Processor chip - ultra low power CMOS device.

  • Available on PCMCIA Type I card with plug and play support and automatic installation.

  • In addition to 5 V power it supports additional 6 signals ( in red on the diagram below) for high speed transfers.

Universal Parallel Port

Cables:

The following 3 types of cables are used with Universal Parallel Port:
  • TDC302 .3m (1 ft.) Paralel Cable for connection of the UPP on The Card with the old type of cables or peripherals. It uses on the one end 25 miniature plug to mate with UPP and the DB25 female connector (standard prallel port connector ) on the other.
This cable is included with the Trans PC Card - Universal Parallel Port in the TDC303 package.

  • TDC402 1m. (3 ft.) Universal Parallel Cable for connection of devices which use Universal Parallel Ports. It has miniature 25 pin plug on both ends. This cable is used to connect Universal Parallel Port with devices which use 25 pin miniature connector.
  • TDC403 2m. (6 ft.) Universal Parallel Cable with the same functionality as TDC402 above.
  • TDC404 4m. (12 ft.) Universal Parallel Cable with the same functionality as TDC402 above.

  • TDC405 1m. (6 ft.) Universal Trans Cable for transfer between two Notebook PCs with UPP. It has miniature 25 pin connectors on both ends.
  • TDC406 6m. (20 ft.) Universal Trans Cable with the same functionality as TDC405 above

Parallel Cable

Parallel Cable is 1ft. (30cm.) long. It uses 18 conductors 28AWG. On one end it has 25 pin miniature plug Hirose NX30TA-25PAA and on the other end, standard DB25 female connector. The mminiture plug connects to Universal Parallel Port (UPP). The DB25 female connector is a standard parallel port for connection to printer cables or for connection to parallel peripherals.

Universal Parallel Cable

The Universal Parallel, shown on the diagram below, is a symmetrical 25 conductors 28 AWG cable with Hirose 25 pin miniature plugs NX30TA-25PAA on both ends. Pins 1 through 10 are driven by Universal Parallel Port (outputs), pins 11 through 20 are CMOS inputs. The pins 21 through 25 are bidirectional control lines.
Signals are connected straight through between two miniature plugs. The cable in length 1m 2 m and 10 m is used to connect Universal Parallel Port of the Notebook PC with peripheral devices which use UPP.
