IN TRANSIT
Look for NEC Electronics to launch its TransProcessor chip at the
Fall Comdex show in Las Vegas next week. The chip enables sustained
2.5 MB/sec data transfer over parallel cabling up to 100 meters
- at the same speed as DOS transfer between two directories on the
same internal hard disk. NEC will demo a PC Card implementation
at the trade show; however, TransProcessor is also said to be suitable
for printer ports, network switches, digital cameras, CD-ROMs and tape
back-up units. The company has volume ready for shipment at $10 per
device in 10,000 unit quantities.
