John C. Dvorak - Inside Track
Genuinely Interesting Software Dept.: It's from Trans Digital
Corp. (14437 Catalina, San Leandro, CA 94577); and it's called
TRANS. Using a patented write-back-engine, this is
unquestionably the fastest computer-to-computer file transfer
program you can find. If you hook two 386s together, then expect
to transfer about 4 megabytes a minute. Faster machines will work
even better, and the cable length can be 50 feet or more. It's
pretty phenomenal. With DESQview you can have the process
running in parallel to multiple machines. Sounds like a great
cheap mininetwork, if you ask me. It requires a special provided
cable and uses the parallel port in an unusual way. This
technology could easily become the performance standard
for people needing to hook a few machines together or for
laptop users needing to plug into their desktop. It's a marvel
and cost only $129. Highly recommended.
